Activision is accused of copying NFT Skin.

The gaming industry is quickly finding that while anything may be made into an NFT, they must be items you actually have the legal right to. Even GameStop has found themselves having to remove illegal game NFTs from its platforms, among other outlets.

Activision has been accused of advertising a skin that was stolen and added to the Call of Duty: Warzone game, which is the most recent of these episodes.

Is This Plagiarism?

The allegedly plagiarized skin was first used in Dr. Disrespect's NFT game, Deadrop. Fans on Twitter drew attention to the similarities between the two skins and expressed their indignation at the potential theft.

But it also appears that the Deadrop team was made aware of the situation. Deadrop's creator, Midnight Society's Robert Bowling, even tweeted that if they were going to imitate him, they should have given the character his name.

10,000 NFTs of in-game characters were made available to Deadrop's early adopters, referred to as founders, last month. Each of the figures had a distinctive look that seemed to be inspired by cyberpunk. Activision now seems to have stolen one of them.

Sadly, Activision has been accused of plagiarizing before; they previously took down a Loyal Samoyed skin that was strikingly similar to one created by another creator.
