According to a news statement shared with nft today, OpenSea is collaborating with the Friends with Benefits (FWB) DAO to help oversee the debut of The Flock, a "curatorial endeavor" and "immersive gallery installation". The collection of one-of-one NFTs, a shimmering, heavenly exhibition, will include works by artists including Ayaka Ohira, Case Simmons, Vivian Fu, and many more.
But this launch won't be any launch. For the first time ever, this collaboration will see the FWB DAO entirely take over OpenSea's homepage and showcase its roster of upcoming Web3 artists there. The featured works on OpenSea's homepage had never been chosen by a third party before this incident. Notably, one of the most high-profile instances of insider trading in the NFT arena included an ex-employee of OpenSea who took use of the homepage curatorial rights of Web3's largest NFT marketplace.
The cooperation between OpenSea and FWB goes beyond only these front-page advantages. OpenSea has provided FWB with a $100,000 commissioning money to be utilized by the curatorial team to oversee the production of new art in support of FWB's objective to steer the future of Web3. According to the press release, these money will be distributed to "artists from across the traditional art world and the NFT area, helping them bring new creative works to life."
Due to FWB's position as a DAO, which includes musicians such as Erykah Badu, Azealia Banks, and David Rudnick among its members, the partnership with OpenSea was put to a vote among the community and received 98% of the vote. A positive example for "how exhibitions and collections are developed and maintained in Web3" is set by the collection's decentralized curation.
The Flock will also open FWB FEST, a Web3 conference and festival that will take place from August 12 to August 14 at the Idyllwild Arts Academy in Idyllwild, California. Pussy Riot, Oneohtrix Point Never, Weyes Blood, and other artists are headlining the event's music festival.
